The Panasonic Lumix FZ35 is the regal successor to the popular FZ28 model. The FZ35 upgrades the sensor resolution a bit from ten to twelve megapixels.

Because of it's success, Panasonic has kept the FZ28's Leica DC Vario-Elmarit-branded 18x optical zoom lens with an effective range from a 27mm wide-angle to a 486mm telephoto.

With the Panasonic FZ35, the image stabilization system has been advanced from the FZ28's MEGA O.I.S. to a new POWER O.I.S. system.

Panasonic states that it roughly doubles the stabilizing power. The FZ35 lens has a maximum aperture that goes from f/2.8 to f/4.4 through the zoom range.

The closest focusing distance for the FZ35is generally about 30 centimeters, but goes down to only one centimeter at wide-angle when placed in Macro mode. At the tele end, a Tele Macro mode decreases the minimum distance to a scant one meter when the zoom is set from 11 to 18x.

As is usually the case for a long-zoom camera, the Panasonic FZ35 provides an electronic viewfinder and an LCD display. Just like it's predecessor, the Panasonic FZ35 EVF is a 0.20-inch LCD with 201,600 dots of resolution, along with a 100% field of view.

The current model features a 2.7-inch LCD display with 230,000 dot resolution and 100% coverage, again, the same as it's predecessor. The FZ35 has included a multi-area autofocus system and a single-point "high speed" focusing mode

Panasonic FZ35 Features State Of The Art Face Detection!

Engineers at Panasonic have included a state of the art face-detection feature. Also, the Panasonic FZ35 can be adjusted to pick up three specific faces for labelling purposes. This model also includes autofocus tracking, which can track a subject while moving around the frame, at the same time updating autofocus as needed.

The five-mode flash strobe has a red-eye reduction and slow-sync faeture. This produces a rated range of up to 8.5 meters at wide-angle, or 5.4 meters at telephoto.

This current model features Panasonic's famous Intelligent Auto, Intelligent Exposure, Intelligent ISO, and Intelligent Scene Selector functions much like many of it's previous cousins.

It also can create Raw and JPEG still images. The Panasonic FZ35 can capture 30 frames-per-second movies with sound at up to 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, which is essentially HD. Movies are able to be recorded using the former QuickTime Motion JPEG compression just like the FZ28, or a newly introduced AVCHD Lite compression option for smaller file sizes.
